The TAG TEAM Movement is inspired by the vision and accomplishments of Marcus Garvey, perhaps the greatest Black leader in modern Black history.

Marcus Mosiah Garvey, originally from Jamaica, moved to Harlem in 1916, where he expanded his United Negro Improvement Association (U.N.I.A.) to over 1,100 chapters in 40 countries around the world. Marcus Garvey united over 6 million Black people in his organization between 1916 and 1926.

Marcus Garvey encouraged Black people to unite together, to be proud, to achieve, to build their own business and to buy from each other. He built factories to make Black products and had over 1,000 Black people employed in his "United Negro Factories Corporation" in New York City alone. His famous words, "Be Black, Buy Black, Build Black, and all else will take care of itself" has become a motto for the TAG TEAM Movement, almost a century later.

Marcus Garvey and the U.N.I.A. held a famous convention in 1920 in New York City, where Black people from countries all over the world met. At that convention, they adopted the red, black and green flag as the official flag of African people all over the world.

Garvey's storm is brewing. His whirlwind is spinning. Marcus Garvey's torch burns once again.
